Tom Braswell
Artist, curator and writer, Tom Braswell grew up in Wilson, North Carolina where he continues to reside. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1975 with a BA in English. He studied photography at Penland School of Craft with John Scarlata (1978, 1979, 1987). In the summer of 1983 Tom took a poetry workshop with Allen Ginsberg and Gary Snyder at Naropa Institute of Buddhist Studies in Boulder, Colorado. In 1991 he received an MFA from Clemson University, studio in photography, where he studied with Sam Wang. Tom has taught photography at several colleges and universities and from 2008 to 2018 was the Interim Director of the Wellington B. Gray Gallery at East Carolina University.
As an artist he works in all media, photography his primary medium, and has exhibited his photographs nationally and at the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China in 2004.
