Melissa Engleman earned a degree in Music Composition, and then went on to complete a Masters and Doctoral Degree in Special Education. 

For a number of years, she was the Professor of Special Education and Director of several grant projects, as well as the cofounder of the Assistive Technology Center and Master’s Certificate program at East Carolina University. She continued composing music part time and raised 2 kids.

When she was in a position to leave the University as Professor Emerita, she completed a Master’s Certificate in Orchestration for Film and Television through Berklee College in Boston.  She was able to compose music full time, and has released numerous pieces on CD, and later on all of the streaming services under the name Melissa Darrow Engleman.

Last year, a friend talked her into taking a class in pastels and she realized that she loved it.  Since then, she has found a love of drawing and painting, and find that it makes a great companion to creating music.
