John received his BFA in painting from State University of New York at New Paltz.

He discovered his passion for plein air painting after moving to the bucolic region of Bucks County, PA. He found inspiration in the local landscapes, and in the paintings of Pennsylvania Impressionists that preceded him.

Expressive line and color are at the core of his artistic ambitions, and the landscape provides the template towards this endeavor. Oil is John’s preferred medium, its fluid nature encourages bold mark making while forcing careful deliberation. John’s goal is to push a painting to the point of where it is about to fall apart. HIs favorite paintings exist on the precipice of having almost gone too far.
