Debbie Williams

I have always had a need to create. Growing up in a small eastern North Carolina community, there were no art classes in school, but I found opportunities in performance art. That led to many years of community theatre. In addition to theatre, I had always wanted to try my hand at visual art. So, in my forties, I finally decided to take a watercolor art class at our local community college. While I found that I really loved painting and appreciated watercolor, I also discovered that the art I wanted to produce required a lot of detail. So, I then took an acrylic/oil painting class and found my mediums! Creating realistic landscapes and scenes that evoke a memory and emotion are my ultimate goal. Fine detail is where I find the greatest pleasure in my work. While most of my work is in acrylic and/or oil on canvas, I also enjoy working on wood surfaces as well as paper. I am mostly self-taught, as I have always been a “hands-on” learner, and my art is no different. However, I do believe my art benefits from the information shared by other WAAA artists.
