David Kelly
Long, long ago, I received a book of reproductions of early to mid-Twentieth Century art. Its bold colors and imaginative forms stuck in my thirsty seven-year-old mind, nurtured by the encouragements of my artist grandparents. Over the years I have explored a variety of fields, including physics, writing, photography, music, boat building, woodworking, and software programming. In the duration I was fortunate enough to receive informal art instruction from the sculptor Samuel Cashwan (my grandfather) and more formally from the painter John Hancock at Barton University (then Atlantic Christian College). After 39 years of corporation work, I emerged with a hunger for color and a desire to push some boundaries. The lingering spirits of my grandparents and the heroes of that now ancient art book gathered to guide me toward forms and harmonies as yet unexplored. The future awaits with terrific and terrifying mystery.
